One of the most challenging aspects of being a performer is having to think on your feet when something goes wrong. Often, covering up an epic fail isn’t so easy. Magicians can’t really take back an illusion that they accidentally reveal, just as a ballerina has a hard time pretending that they didn’t just pirouette into the audience. (Hey, it happens.)
Musicians can at least move on when they miss a note… unless they lose their grip on their instrument. When one student’s cymbal slipped out of his hand during “The Star-Spangled Banner,” there wasn’t any way to go forward. It’s one thing to mess up when you’re part of an ensemble, but it’s another when your part is essential to the performance!
Yet this cymbalist recovered in a way that will have you beaming with pride… or at least chuckling.
Students were performing “The Star-Spangled Banner” during a school concert. At first, everything seemed to go according to plan, until…
…One percussionist dropped his cymbal and he was unable to recover it!
His solution, however, was priceless…
This student definitely thought on his feet under pressure! You can tell the percussionist on the right saw the whole thing and was tickled when he composed himself. Hopefully next time he’ll be able to hang on to his instrument!
