Spaghetti and meatballs is a comfort food that you almost can’t improve upon. But just like all culinary classics that are reinvented, someone has found a way to take this dish to the next level!
If you’re looking for a way to spice up your favorite homemade meal, you’ve come to the right place. This new take on spaghetti and meatballs really kicks things up a notch.
How on Earth could someone improve on such a universally satisfying dish, you ask? The secret is all mixed up with how you make your meatballs…
This recipe for spaghetti and meatballs is as straightforward to make as it is delicious to eat! You’ll start off by boiling your favorite pasta as you usually would. Sticky noodles an issue? Add a tablespoon of white vinegar to solve that problem.
While your pasta cooks, it’s time to get to work on making your own marinara sauce. Don’t get overwhelmed, because it’s a total breeze. The secret ingredient is your base of olive oil. Pour it into a pan on medium high heat before you do anything else.
Once your olive oil is hot enough—you’ll know because it’ll produce a shimmer on its surface—you can add the tomato sauce. You may want to do this from a safe distance as the oil and the sauce itself may splash back.
One of the keys to making your own marinara sauce is to add plenty of tomatoes. You don’t need to steam them and peel them yourself; you can simply add a can of crushed tomatoes to your simmering sauce.
Once you’ve added your tomatoes, stir them together until they are combined with the sauce and the oil. After they’re mixed together and nice and saucy, you can get to work adding the different herbs that really make this sauce sing.
You can add whichever herbs you like to your marinara sauce. After all, it’s that sort of detail that’s going to make you sauce totally unique. Some ideas for herbs include fresh chopped basil, oregano, and crushed red pepper.
Once you’ve let your sauce simmer along with the herbs, transfer a cup to a cup-and-a-half of that sauce on top of the pasta you’ve made. (Ideally, it’s already drained and you left it in a nice warm place.) The rest of your sauce, of course, will be used for your meatballs!
Now that your sauce and spaghetti are already to rock, it’s time to turn your attention to your meatball. You’re going to want to make sure that you pick a nice, lean package of ground beef for this one. You don’t want to waste time straining off fat.
Once you have your ground beef placed in a large mixing bowl, it’s time to add chopped onions! Make sure that these onions are really finely diced. You don’t want massive chunks; just that savory burst of flavor.
Next, toss in chopped parsley and a tablespoon of crushed garlic. You can buy pre-crushed garlic from the supermarket, or you can use the flat side of your kitchen knife to crush it until it forms a nice paste.
Next, you’re going to make an insanely delicious meatball… that’s stuffed with spaghetti. Not sure how that would work? Just watch the video below! Trust those who know: it’s all totally worth it, and you won’t ever think of spaghetti and meatballs the same way again…
Who could have ever thought that you could enjoy spaghetti and meatballs more than you already do? You’re probably asking yourself, “Where has this been all my life?” We don’t blame you!
