A “Haka” is an ancestral war cry originally performed by Maori warriors before going to battle. In a moving tribute, over 200 New Zealand soldiers from the 2nd and 1st Battalion of the Royal New Zealand Infantry Regiment honored three of their fallen comrades with a heartbreaking Haka ceremony performed at their funeral in Christchurch.

A spokesman for the New Zealand army, which released the video, said: ‘Many soldiers don’t tend to show their emotions. But today, you saw their collective grief.’

What a powerful farewell.
