Two friends were hiking in the woods of northern Germany (in an area that was formerly German Democratic Republic territory), when they came across strange, periscope-like pipes protruding from the ground.
They bravely (or foolishly?) decided to explore the area. What they found hidden beneath the ground is a genuine piece of terrifying history.
The friends used to play there as kids but were never allowed to explore the pipes.
But they finally decided it was time. The entrance was covered with a wooden lid, but they were able to remove it with a crowbar.
The view from inside the entrance.
They walked endless, hospital-like hallways…
The acoustics inside of the bunker made for an even more haunting feeling.
There were junctions like this one everywhere. They decided not to turn down just one so they won’t end up lost.
The first dead end.
And another, caved in and covered in graffiti. They were not the first ones to visit here.
The path kept going on and turning.
Although they were scared, they decided not to turn back yet.
Although it was tempting to get out of there. The graffiti on the left translates to “help!”
Doors that resemble bank vault doors looked like they were torn from their hinges by force.
They were heavy and covered in writing that was hard to decipher.
An arrow, pointing to an exit.
Pipes on the ceiling, possibly connected to the periscope pipes outside.
As they went further, the bunker was more and more decayed.
A series of heavy vault doors any visitor would have to pass to get through.
“Hello, Satan, I love you.”
The corridors smelled of sewage.
Going even further, the corridors were not holding up so well.
Some of the hallways and rooms were flooded.
This pile of trash, in the dark, resembled a sitting man. They both panicked when they saw it!
Another impassable corridor.
The “great hall,” the biggest room they discovered.
In the middle of it was a strange machine.
Someone’s gloves, left in the great hall.
Someone must have left in a hurry if they forgot their shoe.
A sign on the floor says “stay back”
A massive hatch.
A mineral growth on the ceilings.
Their camera died right after this last shot. They left the bunker, completely spooked.
I have to admit I would never have gone to investigate something like this if I found it in the woods. Would you?
