Toxoplasmosis is an illness that humans contract from the toxoplasma gondii parasite, which reproduces in and is spread by house cats.

Most adults who contract the parasite won’t show any symptoms at all or will have a few days of flu-like symptoms. In extreme cases, though, it can cause serious illness, and long-term infestation has been linked to schizophrenia and excessive rage.
