While many people are skeptical about smartphones’ prevalence in contemporary society, the fact remains that they’re a vital part of our world. Whether we’re using them for shopping, communication, entertainment, or anything else, there are a host of reasons to use them.
In fact, one could argue that knowing how to use a smartphone effectively has become almost as important as knowing how to use an ordinary computer. It’s not just a matter of keeping up with trends, either: sometimes, a smartphone could save your life if you find yourself lost or in some sort of dangerous situation.
So what do you do when you really need to send a text or an email and you can’t get good reception? Apparently, all you need is a water bottle!
If you’re camping or hiking, having decent cell phone reception is important for reasons that are much more pressing than just being able to take a nice picture of plants and animals.
That’s because if you find yourself lost, LTE reception can mean the difference between life and death. You should be able to get in touch with someone if you need help getting back home.

In fact, failing to get a good LTE signal can happen just about anywhere—even in your own home or office. Those cases may not necessarily be life-threatening, but if you rely on your smartphone for work, a bad signal can spell disaster.

So, what are you supposed to do? Luckily, a Rumble user named Jordan Random came up with a brilliant solution—by accident—while participating in the bottle flip challenge.

It may seem crazy, but his method of boosting wireless reception actually works, so long as you follow the instructions closely. Anybody who uses a smartphone of any kind can’t afford to miss this!
All you’re going to need, besides your smartphone, of course, is an ordinary water bottle. Just don’t forget to make sure that it’s actually full of water, because otherwise, this hack won’t work as intended.
To begin, lay your smartphone flat on a table and stand a full plastic water bottle next to the top of your phone. This should work for any smartphone, not just the iPhone brand as shown.
Now turn on airplane mode, which completely shuts off your wireless and internet reception. This may seem counterintuitive, but it will all make sense when you take the next step!
Now watch closely. See? You’re definitely going to want to try this using your own phone and water bottle!
There’s nothing quite like a simple, inexpensive hack like this to make you feel like a technological expert. The next time you plan on going to an area where you might not get a signal, don’t forget to bring a plastic water bottle!
