They’re creepy and they’re kooky, mysterious and spooky... Yep, we’re talking about the Addams Family — click click! But you know what’s altogether ooky? It’s been three decades since the movie adaptation of The Addams Family hit the big screen. And like all of us, the cast have changed a lot in that time. In fact, we can barely believe what Pugsley looks like now!
1. Anjelica Huston as Morticia Addams
Anjelica Huston was already a big name when she signed up for The Addams Family, and she brought that star power in spades to the movie. Her show-stealing performance as the sultry, unsettling Morticia made her a surefire target for any director in need of a creepy, unsettling, or otherwise unhinged performance from a screen legend.
And Huston’s good working relationship with Wes Anderson has netted her a treasure trove of quality roles in his movies. You may remember her as Etheline in The Royal Tenenbaums or Patricia Whitman in The Darjeeling Limited. She’s definitely not afraid of a juicy small-screen part, either. She lit up Smash as the divorcing, drink-throwing producer Eileen Rand!
2. Christopher Lloyd as Uncle Fester
Before wowing audiences as the creepy Uncle Fester, Christopher Lloyd was already pretty much a household name thanks to his performance as Emmett “Doc” Brown in the Back to the Future trilogy. We can’t forget Taxi, either; Lloyd even scooped a couple of Emmys for his portrayal of the eccentric, rather too chilled-out Iggy.
Lloyd was already doing the crazy guy thing back then, but he should have a Ph.D. in it by now. He’s perhaps become a bit typecast in that kind of role, and yet he’s still got the same ridiculous, bombastic screen presence he’s always had. Fun fact: Ted, the sweaty lawyer from Scrubs, is played by his nephew, Sam Lloyd.
