Traffic Laws That Most Drivers Break On A Daily Basis

With all the steps involved in a driver's license test, you might think you and your fellow legal drivers know all the fundamentals of the road. But you would be mistaken! The extensive traffic laws designed to keep us safe contain some slightly peculiar regulations that very few drivers have ever heard of. These are just a few of the United States road rules that drivers disobey on a regular basis.

30. Don't Let The Engine Run Unattended

Who hasn't left their engine running after quickly dashing inside to fetch something that they left at home? Well, a section of the 1988 Road Traffic Act 1988 says, "You must not leave a vehicle's engine running unnecessarily while that vehicle is stationary on a public road." We still doubt that cops will be patrolling your driveway in an attempt to enforce this law, though.

29. Don't Place A GPS On The Windshield

In all 50 states, sticking your GPS — or smartphone — to the front window counts as obstruction of vision. Still, if you happen to be a driver who places their GPS in this location, however, there's very little to worry about, as most cops won't manage to spot your GPS as you're whizzing by!

28. Don't Wear A House Coat In California

You might call it a nighty, a night gown, or even a robe, but no matter what name you use, if you're a woman, you better not wear a housecoat while driving! This is an old-fashioned law that hasn't been scrubbed from the books yet, so don't expect to spend a night in the slammer for an infraction.

27. Bring Flares In Pennsylvania

Leftover from decades ago, a Pennsylvania law requires automobile operators driving down a country road at night to stop every mile and set off a flare. Then, ten minutes later, once the road is clear of livestock, the driver may continue... for one more mile before repeating the process.
