Strange Theories About Classic Disney Movies

Disney is responsible for some of the most popular movies of all time. Yep, classics like The Jungle Book, Aladdin, Toy Story and The Lion King are all firm favorites. But did you know there are some theories that might make you see these films in a totally different light? Read on to learn of some crazy conjectures that range from speculation that the heroes are really villains to, erm, Goofy not being a dog!

20. Goofy sounding theory

Seasoned Disney fans will no doubt be aware of Goofy. The classic character has been involved in countless escapades in the Disney universe since the 1930s. Though have you heard of the madcap theory out there that suggests he is not a dog but a cow? Well, you do now!

The claim is based on a 2012 article published by Reel Rundown, which resurfaced seven years later. It essentially contends that Goofy is in fact a Scotland-born cow, with Disney concealing his non-American upbringing due to the uneasy political environment in the 1930s. Nah, we’re not having it! The fact-checking website Snopes amusingly concluded, “While some might argue that Goofy is actually a cow and not a dog, the popular character can most accurately be described as a cartoon.”

19. Toying with the character’s backgrounds

Toy Story is such a perfect movie that it doesn’t need fan theories to alter it. Though that hasn’t stopped one particular Reddit user from projecting their ideas on to the landmark animated classic. Believing that the backstories of the toys are a figment of Andy’s imagination, the person wrote, “The characters in Toy Story develop their traits and backstories from the way the children play with the toys.” Okay, so let’s hear him out, shall we?

The user continued, “Woody doesn’t remember much about his origin – nor does Buzz. But that’s only because when Andy plays with Woody, he’s just a ‘generic cowboy.’ Mr. Potato Head and Hamm aren’t supposed to be villains, but they become more antagonizing toward Woody because Andy makes them the villains when he plays with them. Buzz even learns about where he came from based on how Andy and the other children imagine him when they pass Buzz in the toy store.”
