Serial killers have been a source of fascination for centuries. The questions that these cruel people and their actions raise about humanity and mortality are undeniably enthralling, and, for whatever reason, they appeal to people's morbid curiosities.
Yes, it's quite possible to be simultaneously disgusted by the horrific crimes while captivated by the killer's bizarre motivations. Rodney Alcala, a serial killer active in the 1960s and 1970s, was one such murderer who has fascinated people for decades. When you see his tale, you might become obsessed with his case, too...
The story of Rodney Alcala was one of the most intriguing and disturbing criminal cases in history. It all began in 1968, shortly after he left the Army after suffering a nervous breakdown and being diagnosed with antisocial personality disorder. Following the diagnosis, he joined UCLA School of Fine Arts to pursue photography.
While in school, he was able to work through his antisocial personality disorder, and he eventually graduated. All seemed normal. Yet, shortly after leaving UCLA, the very first of Rodney's heinous crimes would occur...
Not long after his graduation, Rodney successfully tempted Tali Shapiro, an eight-year-old girl who was apparently alone at the time, to leave the busy streets of Los Angeles and accompany him to his Hollywood apartment. Luckily, a passing motorist saw the strange interaction...
Right away, the motorist alerted authorities. When police broke into Rodney's apartment shortly after, they found Tali alive, but she had been beaten and raped. Unfortunately, Rodney was long gone by then. The police now had a manhunt on their hands.
