The Beatles Nearly Replaced George Harrison With Another Iconic Star

Songs like "All You Need Is Love" and "With A Little Help From My Friends" are enough to make your day a little brighter, but then comes the sad realization that The Beatles had little love and friendship for each other. The band broke apart and was pieced back together more than once, but one clash was tenser than the rest — so tense, in fact, that one member was almost replaced.

Live Tension

The band was already feeling the tension in the late 60s, and they allowed it all to be recorded. It was called Get Back, a film production where camera crews followed The Beatles on their journey to "get back to basics and reconnect with their music in a rawer way." However, reconnecting is one of the last things that happened.

Musical Challenges

While every moment of their music-making was being recorded, The Beatles were working on a series of songs for their album of new material. The problem was as simple as it was challenging; egos were stepping in the way of friendship and quality music.

Unbalanced Band

George Harrison came up with his own songs for the band to play, but constantly dealt with push-back from Paul McCartney and John Lennon — which is terribly ironic, as his songs are debated today as the greatest among the four. McCartney and Lennon were the band's lead songwriters, and therefore the primary decision makers, but neither of them even gave Harrison's songs a single listen.

Tough Strings

Paul McCartney and John Lennon were focused on their own music, completely shutting down any other ideas. It was an unbearable environment, but Harrison kept up his optimism even in the worst of times.
