The Health Impacts Of Drinking Lemon Water Daily

Lemons and water. Can just two simple ingredients have that much impact on our bodies? Lemon water is becoming more and more popular, with experts celebrating its amazing health benefits and social media urging us to drink the stuff every morning. But what’s the truth? Drinking lemon water has been linked to many good things, but does the science really stack up? Let’s find out.

Two simple ingredients

As its name suggests, lemon water is an effortless combination of two simple, attainable ingredients, making it a) really simple to make and b) really cheap. That’s two big pluses in our book. Just pour a glass of clean, safe-to-drink H2O and care squeeze in the juice from about half a lemon — or as much as you want, really.

The health impact

Obviously drinking lemon juice and water isn’t going to be bad for us, but just how good is it for us? If we’re going to switch out our morning coffee for a glass of lemon water first thing, we want to know it’s going to be worth it. According to the research out there, some of the health benefits of lemon water are obvious and immediate. Others, meanwhile, are reported to take hold after only a week of consuming the beverage several times a day.

The challenge

We’re even being encouraged to try something called “the lemon water challenge,” which involves drinking the stuff every day for seven or even up to 14 days. Apparently, that’s a surefire way to see results. Plenty of experts and influencers have tried this challenge and reported on their findings, so there’s a lot of information out there.

The immediate benefits

One such person is marketing expert Bill Widmer, who claims that regular lemon water can help combat tiredness. "If reaching for a cup of coffee every few hours is becoming your norm, you should consider drinking lemon water for a week to cleanse your system," he says.
