Lionel Richie Saw A Two-Year-Old Girl Alone At A Concert — And Then Made A Bold Move

Before judging American Idol or being crowned one of the world’s best-selling artists of all time, Lionel Richie was an artist slowly building a name in the music world. In 1983, while attending a Prince concert in Los Angeles, the budding star noticed a two-year-old girl standing in a place she didn’t really belong. So, he started asking questions.

Prince charming

Lionel was entranced by this little girl. She was standing up on the busy stage, right next to Prince himself! The young performer beamed as she banged on a tambourine and danced to the music. Seemingly there by accident, the two-year-old compelled Lionel to figure out what on Earth was going on.

Who’s that girl?

Lionel asked around for answers about the little girl’s identity. He particularly wanted to know her parents’ whereabouts and how she’d managed to climb up on stage to stand alongside such a legendary pop star!

Backstage pass

Lionel then got himself backstage. And he learned that the girl was the daughter of Peter Escovedo and Karen Moss — both figureheads in the music world. Lionel asked to meet the two-year-old cutie, perhaps to tell her how great she’d performed.

Hitting it off

Her name was Nicole, and she was apparently bursting with energy upon meeting Lionel. They laughed and played for a while, but soon it was time to go. Upon finding her parents, Lionel was seemingly no longer concerned about Nicole’s safety. But that changed a few months later when they met for a second time.
