Military Dog Saves A Soldier’s Life And Gets Repaid In The Most Touching Way
Military dogs are some of the unsung heroes of wartime combat. These brave animals give up their lives to serve, and they are often right there on the front lines next to the men and women in uniform who are fighting for our freedom.
When one courageous dog named Layka was serving in Afghanistan, she was shot four times at point-blank range. Miraculously, she was still able to neutralize the shooter, saving the life of her handler, Staff Sgt. Julian McDonald, as well as several other soldiers in her unit.
As a result of the attack, Layka lost one of her front legs, but she luckily survived the seven-hour surgery and was sent home. Her future was uncertain. That's when the handler she saved decided to make a sacrifice of his own...
Just from looking at Layka interacting with the humans in her family, you would think that she was just an ordinary, beloved household dog... albeit with a conspicuous missing leg.
Yet the truth is that there's a lot more to her story. She was once a United States military dog in Afghanistan, where she was shot four times at point-blank range by an enemy soldier.
In doing so, she saved the life of her handler, Staff Sgt. Julian McDonald, as well as several of his fellow soldiers. In order to save her own life, however, one of her legs had to be amputated.
Julian took Layka home to the United States so that she could live with him and his family as their pet. Some people think that she's dangerous, but her owner has something important to say about that!
