In the English town of Hexham, Florence Pollock and her husband John were parents to two beautiful young girls: 11-year-old Joanna and 6-year-old Jacqueline. But if they'd known just how drastically their luck would soon change, the couple may have held their daughters a little closer.

And at first, May 5, 1957, started out like any other Sunday for the brood. After chowing down on some breakfast, the girls made their way to church, as the Pollocks were practicing Christians. It was while they were crossing the street, however, that tragedy struck.

A horrible tragedy

An out-of-control driver swerved into the intersection, striking the sisters and killing both almost instantly. The driver had been intoxicated and had attempted to take her own life after losing custody of her own children. Florence and John were left devastated.
