Willie Garson’s Adopted Son Made A Candid Confession After His Passing

The showbiz world was left in mourning in September 2021 when one of its most prolific character actors passed away at the age of just 57. Willie Garson was best known for his role of Stanford Blatch on Sex and the City. But his career spanned 35 years and a total of 170 different credits. A whole host of tributes inevitably poured in following the news. The most emotional, though, came from Willie’s adopted son.

Cause of death

Willie’s cause of death was initially unknown. But just a few days after his passing, newspaper The New York Times’ obituary column confirmed that it had been pancreatic cancer. Willie had reportedly told those closest to him about his diagnosis but had largely kept his condition a secret from the public.

Stanford Blatch

The obituary also stated that Willie passed away at his Los Angeles home surrounded by his loved ones. It asked well-wishers to avoid buying flowers and instead donate money to the Alliance for Children’s Rights charity, too. And many of its words were dedicated to Willie’s stint as Carrie Bradshaw’s male BFF in Sex and the City

Caustic quips

Having noted that, the obituary read, “Garson was never at a loss for a caustic quip. As his role evolved over the course of six seasons, Stanford was not only hilarious, but also vulnerable at times, as he struggled in his own efforts to navigate sex and the city.” And plenty of his castmates offered similar compliments in their own online tributes.

Sarah Jessica Parker tribute

Sarah Jessica Parker, who famously plays Carrie, took to Instagram to pay her respects. She captioned a photo of the pair, “Willie. I will miss everything about you. And replay our last moments together. I will re-read every text from your final days and put to pen our last calls. Your absence a crater that I will fill with blessing of these memories and all the ones that are still in recesses yet to surface.”
